Christian Fellowship beat Murray in three straight sets Monday in the semi-finals of the Fourth District Tournament to advance to play Marshall County, a three set winner over Calloway County, in Tuesday’s title game at CFS at 6:00.
CFS and Murray played the first of the two semi-finals, the Lady Eagles not losing a set to Murray in their two regular season meetings, and they jumped out to an early 13-2 lead before the Lady Tigers out-scored them 12-3 to pull to within two points at 16-14. A kill by Emma Fletcher jump-started the offense and a kill by Abigail Cima put CFS up 19-16, but Murray hung on, staying within three points the rest of the set, CFS taking it 25-22.
The Lady Eagles seemed to hit their stride in the second set, leading 8-0 before Murray got on the board on an out-of-bounds serve by CFS. CFS led by as many as 12 points at 14-2 and went up 21-9 on a kill by Cima and the set point coming on a Murray block of Cima that went out-of-bounds for a 25-11 win.
CFS led 14-1 in the third set, getting several good serves during that span from Lillian Burnett. A couple of points by Murray and another set of good serves from Cima stretched the lead to 18-3. A kill by Fletcher made it 19-4 and the Lady Eagles cruised to a 25-6 third set win to advance to Tuesday’s title game and secure a spot in the regional tournament.
Leading CFS in the win, Cima had 13 kills, Maggie Wagner eight and Fletcher seven. Emma Alexander had 25 assists and Fletcher eight digs.
Four Lady Eagles were selected to the All-District Team; Alexander, Cima, Wagner and Lexi Hovekamp.
