She was born in Paducah, KY on March 29, 1922. She grew up in Princeton, KY, where her mother and father owned Whitis Furniture store. After high school in Princeton, she attended Western Kentucky University and then worked for Chrysler Corp. in Evansville, IN during WW II.
In 1946 she married Warner Adamson after he returned from Naval service at Pearl Harbor and submarine duty during WW II. They moved to Benton, KY and raised two children. She loved her family, friends and her church, First Baptist of Benton.
She spent her last 14 years living at the Stilley House Assisted Living in Benton, KY where she was active, giving and a witness to her faith every day. She showed her faith by supporting the Benton First United Methodist Church Food Pantry with her weekly donations of milk and eggs.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Ann Gammel, husband Theo of Benton, KY; son, Jim Adamson, wife Terri of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Craig N. Gammel, wife Jessica; Cara K. Groom; Maura Ware, husband Matthew; Lindsey VonHellen, husband Andrew; great-grandchildren, Olivia K. Gammel, John Thomas Groom, Annabel C. Groom; Lucas James Ware; Jacob Andrew VonHellen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late William Walter Whitis and the late Sallie Jane (Howard) Whitis and also her husband of 56 years, the late Warner Abner Adamson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY, Rev. Don Wilson and Rev. Mark Doom officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Princeton, KY.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, KY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to First Baptist Church, Benton, KY or to Benton First United Methodist Church Food Panty.
