Jay Nimmo’s 7-under 67 Saturday in the Marshall County Invitational at Calvert City Country Club led the Marshals to a first place finish with a team score of 294. His round that included eight birdies and one bogey set a tournament record.
Daniel Love of Daviess County and Trey Lewis of Ohio County both shot rounds of 69 for second and third. Fourth went to Marshall County’s Camdyn McLeod with a 1-under par 71 and rounding out the top five was Jackson Hill of Madisonville-North Hopkins with 72.
The Marshals won by 17 strokes over Daviess County with a team score of 311, McCracken County was third with 316, Ohio County fourth with 322 and Murray placed fifth 323 in the field of 14 teams.
“Really proud of our team on how they played today plus it’s always great to win your own tournament”, Coach Keith Bell said. “Sometimes when you play at your home course, there can be distractions but today this team played well.”
Coach Bell was extremely happy with Nimmo’s round of 7-under and McLeod’s 1-under round. He added that Tyler Powell had many opportunities to be under par but caught a few bad breaks. Trey Wall’s 82 rounded out the Marshals team score.
“It was also great today that all of our players were able to play”, Bell said. “Several of our younger players had career low rounds and this experience will prove beneficial to them down the road.”
“I’d also like to thank all of our parents, volunteers and Calvert City Country Club who all helped us put this tournament on. Teams really look forward to coming to Marshall County and playing in this tournament and that wouldn’t be the case if we didn’t have the help from all of them.”
