Mr. George Cates, age 96, of Cuba, KY passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY.
He was a member of Cuba Baptist Church, a retired farmer and a WWII U.S. army veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre.
Mr. Cates is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Reed Cates; three sons, Jerry (Carol) Cates of Cuba, KY, Jimmy “Keeter” (Deborah) Cates of Lynnville, KY and George “Junior” (Judy) Cates of Cuba, KY; one daughter, Beverly Cates (Carl) Jolley of Capac, MI; six grandchildren, Gaylon Jolley, Bill Cates, Betsy Smith, Ken Cates, Chris Cates and Nichole Kiefner; and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Cates; one step-sister, Dorothy Lyles; one grandchild, Greg Jolley; and his parents, Fred and Fannie Williams Cates.
Funeral services for Mr. George Cates will be 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Will McSweeney and Glynn Copeland will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #26. Interment will follow at Cuba Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gaylon Jolley, Bill Cates, Ken Cates, Chris Cates, Robert Smith and Phil Kiefner.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the funeral home.
