Mr. Jerry D. Orr, age 85 of Gilbertsville, KY passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 at Calvert City Convalescent Center, Calvert City, KY. Born between the rivers in Star Lime Works, KY, on September 3, 1933, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1952 – 1956 aboard the USS Samuel N. Moore, attaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and was a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Orr was retired from Arkema Chemicals (formerly Pennwalt). He was the son of the late Calvin Orr and the late Jewell (Hill) Orr.
He is survived by his sons; Kent Orr, wife Nancy of Lago, TX; Jeff Orr of Gilbertsville, KY; Kevin Orr, wife Shelley of Smyrna, TN; Scott Clayton of Kuttawa, KY. Daughters; Tammy Dawes, husband Andy of Calvert City, KY, Betsy Thompson of Reidland, KY, Annie Futrell, husband Jeff of Benton, KY. Also surviving are step-brothers: Tommy Nickell of Cincinnati, OH; Eddie Nickell of Eddyville, KY; David Nickell of Smithland, KY, brother-in-law: Author Simon, wife Vicky of Dunwoody, GA, Sisters-in-law: Melissa Orr of Calvert City, KY and Martha Simon of Kirkland, WA, son-in-law: Todd Duncan, wife Jill. Special Buddy: Jane Taylor, 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Simon Orr; daughter: Jana Orr Duncan; son-in-law: Mike Thompson; grandson: Jon Thompson and granddaughter, Kara Futrell.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY. Rev. Susan Engle officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Lee-Dodds Cemetery in Lyon County, Land Between the Lakes, KY.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. at the Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY 42025.
