Nell Gwynn Cox Sims of the Farmington area passed from this life on March 1, 2019.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Louis Sims.
After graduating as valedictorian of her Farmington High School Class of 1944 and attending Howard D. Happy Business School in Mayfield, she worked at the West Viola National Fireworks Plant during World War II. She also worked at the Merit Clothing Company. Following her marriage to Robert she was a wife, mother and faithful member of the Farmington Church of Christ, typing the Bulletin for 29 years, a Labor of Love.
She is survived by her children, Louis Sims of Browns Grove, Sharon (David ) Kirby of Old Hickory, TN, Phillip (Janie) Sims of Russellville, AR, and Theda Sims of Farmington; her grandchildren, Lauren (Brian) Ott of Leland, MS, Leah Shea (Barry) Winfrey of Mayfield, James Kirby D.D.S. of Nashville, TN, Jenny Sims of Sedalia, Anna (Ross) Locke of Lebanon, TN, Sara Beth Sims of Sedalia and Emilee (Lucas) Moody of Mountain Home, AR; great grandchildren, Kailee, Abby, and Brady Winfrey, Zane Jones, Abigail and Adelyn Locke, Barnes, Kirby and Gus Ott. She is also survived by two sisters, Clarene Wilson of Boaz, KY and Louetta (H.M.) Lawrence of Warren, MI; one sister in law, Iva Cox of Mayfield; one brother in law, John Sims of Lexington, KY; and many beloved nieces and nephews from the Cox and Sims sides of the family.
Loved ones preceding her in death are her parents, Eulis and Sunshine Mills Cox; brothers, Wendell, Farrell and Fay Lynn “Pete” Cox; sisters in law, Rosetta Cox, Carolyn and Shirley Cox; and brother in law, Larry Wilson.
Funeral services for Nell Gwynn Cox Sims will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Jerry Mayes and Stan Little will officiate. Interment will follow at Farmington Cemetery. James Kirby, Drew Houts, Barry Winfrey, Lucas Moody, Brian Ott, Ross Locke, David Ray, Benny Wilson, Michael Cox, Farrell Wayne Cox, and Dale Ray will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the funeral home.
