
Behind a 20 point night from Tyler Powell, the Marshals wrapped up the regular season at home Thursday with a 60-44 win over Pope County, Ill. They will now focus on the all-important district tournament game against Calloway County Tuesday on the Lakers home court. Tip-off around 7:45 following the Lady Marshals game against Calloway County at 6:00.
Leading throughout the first half, the Marshals held a 30-16 at halftime. They opened the second half with two straight by Powell and Tyler Stokes to take an 18 point lead. A three from Pope County’s Jackson Eddington later in the third quarter cut the Marshals lead to 13, but Bryce Flatt answered with a three for the Marshals to hold a 16 point lead and they led 46-33 at the end of the quarter.
Kade Driver opened the fourth quarter with a three followed by a basket from Powell and free throw by Stokes for the Marshals largest lead of the game at 52-33. In the closing seconds, Driver’s basket kept the lead at 19 points before a three at the final buzzer by Matt Sherrod for Pope County.
Eddington led Pope County with 15 points, and the loss drops them to 19-11. The Marshals finish the regular season with a 12-17 record.
