Lady Marshals down Lady Mustangs 61-46

The Lady Marshals improved to 15-3 following their 67-46 win over McCracken County (8-10) in Friday’s Marshall County Shootout. Lorin Powell led in scoring with 15 points, Halle Langhi had 12 and Presley Jezik 11. For the Lady Mustangs, Meagan Hayden led with 12 points, Tay Scott had 10.

McCracken County struck first, taking a 4-0 lead on a free throw by Marlee Morehead and 3-pointer from Hayden. Cayson Conner got the Lady Marshals on the board with a free throw before the Lady Mustangs went up 7-1 on a basket by Scott and free throw from Abby Ellington.

Marshall County took their first lead at 8-7 on a basket by Powell, but it swung back in favor of the Lady Mustangs on a three by Hayden. Whitnee Miller put the Lady Marshals back up at 11-10 followed by another three for McCracken County from Ellington that put them back on top by two points. Powell tied it at 13 and Layne Pea hit a 3-pointer for a three point lead with the final basket at the buzzer by Scott for a 16-15 Lady Marshals lead at the end of the first quarter.

Langhi opened the second quarter with five straight of her nine second quarter points, Miller added four points, Jezik three and a basket each by Conner and Tera Colson to stretch their lead out to 15 points. Ashton Rudy dropped in a three to cut the lead to 12 points (36-24) at halftime.

Holding McCracken County to nine third quarter points, the Lady Marshals took a 53-33 lead at the end of the third quarter. Powell, Jezik, Colson and Conner shared the scoring in the fourth quarter for the Lady Marshals on their way to a 21-point win.

The Lady Marshals will play Muhlenberg County at home on Tuesday at 7:30.
