Lady Marshals sweep Hoopfest games with 67-55 win over Lakeway Christian

Cayson Conner scored 21 points in the Lady Marshals 67-55 win over Lakeway Christian, earning the sophomore Most Valuable Player honors.

Opening Saturday’s Hoopfest slate of nine games, the Lady Marshals beat Lakeway Christian, TN 67-55 behind the combined scoring of Halle Langhi with 23 points and Cayson Conner with 21, sweeping both games in the 2018 Hoopfest after their 57-47 win over Massac County on Thursday. Conner also had five assists and was three for three from the free throw line, earning MVP honors.

Lorin Powell, back on the floor after missing Thursday’s game against Massac County, scored seven points.

The Lady Marshals opened with a 7-1 lead, wiped out by Lakeway Christian leading to a 14-14 tie on a 3-pointer. A basket by Langhi ended the quarter on a 16-14 lead, one they never relinquished the remainder of the game.

Opening the second quarter on nine straight points by Conner, Layne Pea and Presley Jezik, the Lady Marshals went up 23-14 and finished out the half with four points from Whitnee Miller and two straight threes from Conner to lead 40-22. Conner and Langhi both had 15 points in the first half.

Lakeway Christian out-scored the Lady Marshals by two points in the third quarter and by four in the fourth quarter. Thirteen of their second half points came from Kayle Yates who led the team with 16. Lorin Powell had five of Lady Marshals 15 fourth quarter points in their 12 point win.

The Lady Marshals JV and Varsity will play at home Monday against Livingston Central.
