CFS Eagles start season 1-1, beat Carroll Academy in home-opener

Third year Head Coach Tyler Ryan lost nine seniors from last year’s 13-15 Christian Fellowship boy’s team, the best finish for the program in over 20 years. CFS returns seven from last years squad including two seniors Ethan Binkley and Nathaniel Hummel. Also returning are juniors Mikey Bivin, Drew Cary and Ari Phillips along with sophomore Brent Fleming and freshman Luke Griggs.

Joining those seven on the roster are junior Samuel Bowers, sophomore Andrew Allen, freshman Bryce Cary, Isaac Hovekamp, Warren Parker, Carter Space, Beau Wilson and eighth grader Andrew Dunning.

The Eagles opened with a loss Monday to Dawson Springs 77-41, led in scoring by Phillips with 11 and Drew Cary with nine points.

The Eagles followed up Monday’s loss with a big 81-18 win over Carroll Academy, TN. They led 23-0 before the Jags got on the board with three minutes left in the first quarter and took a 34-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles held Carroll Academy to just four points in the second quarter to lead 50-11 at halftime and out-scored them 31-7 in the second half.

Four players were in double figures for CFS in the win starting with Hummel’s 16 points, Allen and Grigg with 14 each and Bivin with 12.

The Eagles play at Murray High Thursday at 6:00, at Burgin Friday in a double-header that starts at 6:00 then a game at Danville Christian Saturday in another double-header that begins at 11:00 am.
