Marshall County and Graves County will play for regional championship

Kylee Crass, pictured here in last week’s district championship game against Graves County, scored three goals in the Lady Marshals 6-0 regional tournament win over Paducah Tilghman.

A 6-0 win over Paducah Tilghman will advance the Lady Marshals to the Region One Championship game against Graves County, a 5-2 winner over McCracken County in the second of two semi-final games held at McCracken County Monday. The two teams split their regular season games and played for the district title last week with the Lady Marshals coming out on top 2-0.

Before they could advance to their second straight regional championship, the Lady Marshals had to take care of business against Paducah Tilghman. Tilghman keeper Molly Watkins did all she could to keep the Lady Tornados in the game, coming up with well over 30 saves, 12 of those before the Lady Marshals could get one in the net off the foot of Kylee Crass on an assist by Whitley Watwood over 22 minutes in.

Crass scored her second goal of the game six minutes before halftime and Lindy King added the third on an assist by Taylor Droke for a 3-0 halftime lead. Hannah Holsapple scored goal number four 14 minutes into the second half on an assist from Hope Howard and Carmen Gunn made it a 5-0 game, assisted by King at the midway point of the half. With just under 10 minutes remaining, Crass completed the hat trick to finish out the scoring on the 6-0 win.

The Lady Marshals had over 40 shots on goal and 13 corners, holding Tilghman to no shots. Carlen Whiley picked up her ninth shut out of the season.

The championship game will be played at 6:00 Thursday at McCracken County.
