In their fourth game of the season, the Lady Marshals beat Graves County 5-1 at home and with the Lady Eagles 2-1 win over Marshall County at home Thursday, that loss remains their only one of the season as they improve to 12-1-1.

A couple of close attempts by the Lady Marshals in the first half came 15 minutes in on a shot from Carmen Gunn off the post and a header that just missed by Kylee Crass but at 13:25 in the half, Alli Chancellor put one in the net on a penalty kick, scoring her first goal of the season to give the Lady Marshals a 1-0 lead.
Just over 10 minutes into the second half, Graves County tied the game on a goal by Raychel Mathis. Madeline Byrd then found the net but was called off-sides but she made up for it minutes later, getting past Marshall keeper Carlen Whirley to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead with 26 minutes to go in the second half.
Hannah Hosapple and Gunn both with a couple of good looks near the 12 minute mark and with 8:30 to go a nice shot to the upper left corner by Chancellor was saved by the Graves County keeper.
“Our effort was great, we had a great free kick…first half we got behind the ball and were able to contain Raychel and Madeline”, Coach Michael Boone said. “Second half they got free a couple times but still the two goals were to their credit. They did a good job on Carmen. She wasn’t able to get free. Defensively I thought we played solid and hopefully we’ll get another crack at them at our place in the tournament.”
Boone said the team has dealt with a lot this week and needs to get healthy with four games left on the regular schedule before the district tournament. The Lady Marshals are 7-6 and will play next at Mayfield on Tuesday.
Both teams had 10 shots each in the game, six on goal for the Lady Marshals, eight for the Lady Eagles.
