Marshall County’s Aaron Reed signed Wednesday to extend his basketball career at Bethel University and play for Head Coach Jeff Britt in the NAIA Division I program. Bethel is a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference and finished 21-7 this past season, ending their season in the MIAC Championship game.

In his four-year career at Marshall County, Reed excelled on both ends of the court, playing significant minutes as a freshman and continued to improve each season. As a senior, Reed helped guide the Marshals to a Fourth District Championship, the first since 2014, and a berth in the semi-finals of the Region One Tournament. Reed led this year’s team in scoring with 11.3 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, 85 assists and 30 steals.

“We are thrilled that Aaron has the opportunity to continue doing what he loves to do at the collegiate level”, Head Coach Terry Birdsong said. “Aaron has been dedicated to the game of basketball and it’s great to see him reap the rewards. He has a big upside and we anticipate that he will have a solid career at Bethel University.”

In his career at Marshall County, Reed was named to the Paducah Sun All-Purchase Team his junior year and as a senior made both the Fourth District and Region One All-Tournament teams. He also reached a huge milestone his senior season by becoming one of only 17 players to join the prestigious 1,000 point club and ended his career with 1,087 points.

Reed said he chose Bethel University because of its proximity to home and said of his time playing at Marshall County that what stands out the most is the people he was fortunate to play with and coaches he played for.

“Aaron has been an outstanding role model and player during his time at MCHS”, Birdsong said. “He will be missed in the years that come, by both his coaches and teammates. We are all very proud of Aaron and wish him nothing but the best as he continues his athletic and educational career.”

Supporting Reed at his signing were fellow teammates on the basketball and track teams and friends.
