Mrs. Lida Sheppard Hill, 94 of Benton, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Calvert City Convalescent Center in Calvert City.

Born Sunday, March 16, 1924 in Hites, Mrs. Hill relocated and spent most of her years in the Sharpe Community. She was a rural mail carrier until her retirement from the United States Postal Service in Benton. She even delivered baby chicks. She was very civic minded, always wanting to help others, and ran for the office of Marshall County Commissioner in the 1990’s. Mrs. Hill was a very strong willed and opinionated women. She supported Marshall County basketball faithfully. Also, she was a supporter of Southern Harmony Singing, Big Singing Day in Benton, and was a large help to her church, Sharpe Missionary Baptist Church. Above all, she loved and took care of her family in every way.

She is survived by nieces, Emma Lou Wells, husband Don of Paducah, Etta Faye Farmer, huband Tommy of Benton, special niece, Icy Barrett, foster children, Rafe Thomas and Gary Seay, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and Pinnegar and Sheppard cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude V. Sheppard and Eva (Pinnegar) Sheppard, by her husband, Woodrow Jasper Hill, her brother, Thanuel Sheppard, who was killed in World War II in Operation Tiger, and two sisters, Adell Collins and Iola Jones.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton. Rev. Jeremy Short will officiate. Interment will follow the service in the Fooks Cemetery, Benton.

Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Sharpe Missionary Baptist Church, 9181 Scale Rd, Benton, KY 42025, or to the American Cancer Society, 3140 Parisa Dr, Paducah, KY 42003.
