Lady Marshals open with 15-3 district win over Murray

The Lady Marshals kicked off their season in a big way Thursday under first-year Head Coach Mallory Newton in a 15-3 4th District win over Murray on 12 hits. Senior Aubree Jo Kemp got the win on the mound in four innings of work, allowing four hits and one run while freshman Kinley Edwards led in hitting with a single in the first inning, triple in the fifth inning and four RBI’s. Freshman Presley Jezik hit a single and a double with three RBI’s, sophomore Kaycee Kemp also with a single, double and RBI and freshman Cayson Conner hit a single with three RBI’s.

Gracey Murt led off with a single, then scored the first run of the game on Conner’s single in the first inning, the start of a 5-run inning. Jezik brought in Addie Young with a single, Edwards 2-run single scored Sarenna Tomassi and Jezik and finally Edwards scored to make it 5-0 on a single by Aubree Jo Kemp. Murray got on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Brittany Tipton.

The Lady Marshals added two more runs in the third inning on a sacrifice hits by Jezik and Edwards with Murray hanging in to put another run up in the bottom of the inning on a double by McKenzie Turley.

Two more Lady Marshal runs were scored in the fourth inning on a double by Young and single by Kaycee Kemp before putting the game away with a 6-run fifth inning. Murt’s bases loaded sacrifice scored Destiny Sauders, Conner hit a 2-run single then scored on Savannah Hairgrove’s at-bat, Jezik brought in Tomassi and Edwards wrapped things up with a 1-run triple for a 15-2 Marshall County lead. Murray added one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice by Paige Miller.

The potential for rain this weekend has cancelled the McCracken County Tournament. The Lady Marshals were scheduled to play three games in the tournament.
