Chambers earns Singletary Scholarship

Briley Chambers has been selected to receive the Otis A. Singletary Scholarship from the University of Kentucky.

The Singletary Scholarship is a competitive scholarship open to incoming UK freshmen. It has stringent eligibility requirements as applicants must have at least a 33 on the ACT or a 1490 on the SAT as well as a 3.80 unweighted GPA to be considered for the award. The application also includes an essay, and applicants that pass the first round of screening are then interviewed as part of the final determination.

Singletary Scholars receive 4 years of free tuition and a $10,000 housing stipend for their freshman and sophomore years. The scholarship is one of the most prized offers at the university, with a total value of approximately $68,000.

Chambers, a senior at Marshall County High School, said she is excited to attend UK this fall, where she will be enrolled in the university’s Honors College. Her future plans include majoring in biology as an undergraduate, and she intends to enter the medical field. Currently, she is interested in orthopedics.

Briley is the daughter of Scott and Brittany Chambers. She is President-Elect of the Junior Rotary Club and tutors younger students in a variety of subjects. She is also heavily involved in MCHS’s many advanced placement offerings and is considered an AP Scholar, a designation earned by receiving a score of three or better on three or more Advanced Placement exams, where a perfect score is five.

On why she chose to become a Wildcat, Chambers said, “UK just has so many opportunities for job shadowing, internships… things like that. I always knew I wanted to go to a bigger school and immerse myself in a new experience.”
