On Thursday March 1, Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Byars attended a meeting at the White House with President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, law enforcement officials and others impacted by school violence.
During the meeting, participants discussed ideas about possible solutions. According to the Sheriff’s Department, issues discussed included possible funding for additional school resource officers and changes to the building at Marshall County High School, where a Jan. 23 shooting fatally injured two students. Byars also talked with the president about the current mental health paradigm and the possibility of a mental health professional working in every school system.
Byars said he was honored to represent his staff, other law enforcement officers and first responders.
