Aubree Jo Kemp signed Thursday to continue her softball career at Southern Illinois College in Harrisburg, IL for Head Coach Maggie Calcaterra. Southeastern Illinois College is a member of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I team.
Kemp has been a member of the Lady Marshals softball team for three years and one season played at Graves County High School. She got varsity playing time as a freshman, becoming a full-time starter her sophomore year at Graves County and junior year at MCHS.
As a junior, Kemp anchored the pitching rotation for the Lady Marshals while also seeing time in the outfield as well as a designated batter when not pitching. She was named to the Region I All-Tournament Team her sophomore season and is very much respected and looked up to by her teammates, a true leader on the field.
“Aubree deserves this chance to continue the sport she has loved for many years while furthering her education”, former Head Coach Trent Lovett said. “Aubree epitomizes what a team player is all about. She was willing to play any position on the field as long as it would help the team. Aubree is a tireless worker that always goes the extra mile to improve her skills.”
Kemp credits many along the way who have helped her develop as a player, including past and current coaches Kara Hamby, Michael Cross, her father Jerry Kemp, Anna Maziarka, Jordan Gilland and many travel team coaches.
“Aubree’s contributions to the program have been outstanding while at Marshall County High, but she is not finished yet”, Lovett said. “We expect huge things from her during this year, her senior season. If the off-season work is any indication, we know she will have a tremendous year. We are proud of the young lady she is becoming. We are blessed that her parents and younger sister Kaycee will remain a part of the program for the near future.”
