Tied 52-52 with a minute to go, the clock ticking down on Warren’s Central’s possession, a three attempt at the buzzer by Kemal Esmic missed the mark to send the Marshals and Dragons into overtime in Thursday’s game at Ohio County. Warren Central out-scored the Marshals by four points in the overtime period to win 60-56.

The game began on a 5-4 Marshall County lead before Warren Central scored nine straight points to go up 13-5 before a 3-pointer by Tyler Powell stopped the run. A couple of free throws by Skyler Smith ended the first quarter on a 15-10 Warren Central lead.

A three by Austin Riley kicked off a second quarter the Marshals controlled offensively, out-scoring Warren Central 20-8 to lead 30-23 at halftime. Smith led in the quarter with eight points, Riley had five, Powell with a three and a basket each by Aaron Reed and Matt French. Skyelar Potter scored all eight of Warren Central’s second quarter points and led the Dragons with 14 points in the first half.

Continuing with their second quarter scoring, Powell and Smith dropped in three’s to open the third quarter on a 36-23 lead. They reached their largest lead of the game in the quarter after Smith’s third 3-pointer to go up by 14 points at 45-31. Potter and Jamale Barber scored the final six points of the quarter to pull the Dragons to within eight.

Two straight baskets by Esmic to open the fourth quarter cut the Marshals lead to four points to complete a 10-0 run, ended on a basket by Reed. Smith’s fourth 3-pointer put the Marshals up 50-43, cut back to a five point lead by Jordan Cousin. Warren Central out-scored the Marshals 7-2 in the final three minutes to send the game into overtime.

Following a three by Smith to begin the overtime period, the momentum remained with the Dragons, out-scoring the Marshals 8-4 to pick up their 10th win of the season.

The Marshals will tip-off at 6:00 tonight against Holmes in their final game at Ohio County. Holmes lost 67-43 Wednesday to Warren Central and beat Ohio County Thursday 62-43.
