Wyatt Moshure has been working for months toward his community service project in obtaining his Eagle Scout rank. That work came to fruition Saturday as Moshure, along with fellow Scouts, friends, family and law enforcement gathered at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office to participate in a flag dedication ceremony, on the new pole Moshure worked to secure and place at the department.
Moshure began his project in February, working with Sheriff Kevin Byars to find potential donors to the project. It was something Moshure said in a previous interview he felt that all law enforcement should have.
“I thought it was a very good project to do because it kind of surprised me that the sheriff’s office did not have a flag pole,” Moshure said. “… I feel like every sheriff’s office or police station deserves a flag pole. That’s one thing they’re there to do and protect, they enforce the law, and to me it just seems very silly that don’t all have one. So I’m making sure they get one.”
Moshure has already achieved Life Scout status and with the completion of the flag project, he will also earn his Eagle Scout rank. Life Scouts working toward Eagle rank must complete a number of activities demonstrating good citizenship and leadership skills, as well as plan, develop, lead and execute an extensive community service project, according to Boy Scouts of America. The project must be a nonprofit endeavor.
