Teens struck while walking on Slickback Road

Two teenagers suffered only minor injuries after police say they were struck by a car as they walked along Slickback Road near Mayfield Highway.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Neil Mayzik, 18, of Benton was walking about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 with his younger sister, who was identified only as a 16-year-old girl from Puryear, Tenn., when a vehicle driven by Michael Palmer, 44, of Almo, also traveling south, met a motorcycle. The light from the motorcycle prompted Palmer to slow, and that’s when he noticed Mayzik, who he could not avoid. Deputies say Palmer struck Mayzik with the center of his car; Mayzik’s sister was also hit in the incident.
Both teens were walking in the road and wearing dark clothing, according to MCSD.
Mayzik and his sister suffered only minor injuries in the incident and refused treatment at the scene.
MCSD urged pedestrians to wear reflective clothing and walking in well lit areas. Pedestrians are also required to walk against opposing traffic rather than with it unless a designated walkway is available.
