Benton man killed in rain-related car crash

A Benton man was killed Sunday, after officials say his vehicle hydroplaned into the wrong lane.

According to a deputy coroner’s statement, about 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, Joseph C. Jung, 24, of Benton, was driving west on U.S. Highway 68 near Sportsman’s Lodge at Jonathan Creek. Witnesses reported Jung’s vehicle, a four-door compact car, hydroplaned into the eastbound lane; oncoming traffic struck Jung’s vehicle in the passenger side.

Deputy Coroner Curt Curtner at noon pronounced Jung dead on scene. Curtner said he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Occupants of the other vehicle were taken to Marshall County Hospital via EMS for treatment of injuries not deemed life threatening.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police, South Marshall Fire Department, Marshall County EMS and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office responded on scene.
