The Marshall County Coroner’s office has identified the man who drowned Saturday in Gilbertsville as 57-year-old Willie Ray Morrow of St. Louis, Mo.

Emergency Management Director and Deputy Coroner Curt Curtner said Morrow was with three other men who were in the area on a twice annual fishing trip. The group was fishing about 11:40 a.m. Saturday near the boat slips at Kentucky Dam Marina, when Morrow drifted off to sleep. His boat shifted upstream, and he fell overboard.

Curtner said Morrow resurfaced twice, but friends were unable to pull him back to safety and none were strong swimmers. Neither Morrow nor any of the witnesses were wearing life jackets, Curtner confirmed.

Marshall County Rescue Squad personnel recovered Morrow from the lake about 2 p.m.

Alcohol was not a factor in the incident, Curtner said.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall County EMS, Kentucky State Park rangers, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Gilbertsville Fire Department, East Marshall Fire Department and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office responded on scene.
