Mrs. Mary Alice Johnston, 99, of Hardin, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Marshall County Hospital in Benton.
Born Friday, Nov. 9, 1917, in Marshall Count, she was the daughter of the late Other Socrates Mathis Sr., and the late Gorda Mae (Creason) Mathis. She was the wife of the late Karl Johnston.
She was a homemaker, a retired office worker for Caterpillar in East Peoria, IL and was a member of Hardin Church of Christ.
Surviving are her sons, Dr. Timothy Charles (Jennifer) Johnston of Murray and Byron Mathis “Matt” (Barbara) Johnston of East Peoria, Ill.; daughter, Judith (Hafford “Ed”) Cook of Maricopa, Ariz.; sister, Gretta Morris of Murray; 10 grandchildren, Laurel, Matthew, Carter and Katey Johnston, Brian Johnston, Jennifer Englehaupt, Quintin Cook, Jana Fredericks, Gretta Roberts, Hannah Cook Cross; 15 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, by brothers, James M. Mathis, Dillard Mathis, Cratus Mathis and Other Socrates “Kayo” Mathis, Jr., sisters, Lucy Tolbert and Flora Ann Thweatt.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton. Mark Hurt will officiate. Interment will follow the service in the Union Ridge Cemetery in Aurora.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, KY.
