Deputies respond to injury crash, make arrests in disturbances

Sheriff’s Report, Sept. 5, 2017 (Updated):

Deputy Luke Rudd was dispatched Sunday, Sept. 3 to Sledd Creek boat ramp in reference to a possible assault. Detective Kevin Mighell had observed the incident occur and witnessed the females purse that had, in plain view, a bag of marijuana sticking out of it. Along with the bag of marijuana, Deputy Rudd located several items of paraphernalia also in the purse. Dispatch in the meantime confirmed that the subject Michaela L. Gossum 21, of Calvert City, also had an active Bench Warrant out of McCracken County. Gossum was placed under arrest for the bench warrant and cited to court for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Saturday, Sept. 2 Deputy Josh Anderson served an arrest warrant on Chase T. French 21, of Murray, for Assault 4th Degree out of Calloway County.

On Sunday, Sept. 3 Deputy Luke Rudd executed a warrant on a Benton Police Department case on Gregory A. Sutton 47, of Paducah. He was charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking or Shoplifting Under $500.

On Sunday, Sept. 3 Sheriff Kevin Byars traveled to Crown Pointe, ID to retrieve Mark E. Bratcher 54, of Lowell, Ind., as a fugitive from justice. Bratcher had an outstanding warrant from Benton Police Department for three counts of Theft By Failure To Make Required Distribution of Property Under $10,000.

Deputy Chris Greenfield conducted a traffic stop at 12:04 p.m. Aug. 26 on U.S. Hwy. 68 in Aurora. Jill Arlene Bopp of Murray was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle U/Influence of ALC/Drugs/Etc .08 1st Offense and lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

Deputy Barry Howell responded on Aug. 29 to Industrial Parkway in reference to a disturbance. As a result, David Smith, 36, of Calvert City was arrested and charged with Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place. When Howell took Smith to the Marshall County Detention Center, Smith began kicking the back door of the police vehicle. He was then charged with second degree criminal mischief. Later, it was determined that a Grayson County warrant had been signed on Aug. 31 for Smith on an alleged bond violation. Sgt. Rick Inman of Court Security served the Grayson Circuit warrant for violation of bond on the original 2016 charges of second-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia buy / poss, public intoxication and persistent felony offender.

Deputy Dan Melone was dispatched on Aug. 30 to Sid Darnall Road in reference to a disturbance. It was reported that a man was at a residence banging on the door and was intoxicated. When officers arrived, the suspect fled into a field and was found and arrested about 10 minutes later. Micah Daran Hill, 42, of Benton was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place and lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

Sgt. Jason Lane served a McCracken County Bench warrant on Aug. 31 on Rhen L. Hendrickson of Symsonia. Hendrickson turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office. The warrant was for failure to appear in McCracken District Court.

Deputy Dennis Lewis investigated an injury crash at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31 on U.S. Hwy. 641 near Draffenville. According to a report filed by Lewis, Dondra M. Hackney, 48, of Benton was making a right turn from High School Road to U.S. 641. A vehicle driven driven by Cassandra M. York, 18, of Benton was traveling north on U.S. 641. Hackney said that there was a vehicle in the turn lane blocking her view and she did not see York’s vehicle coming. When Hackney made the turn impact occurred. York was taken by Marshall County EMS for her injuries. Hackney was transported by private vehicle for treatment.
