
Families arrive to the Family Fun Day event in 2015 at Mike Miller Park in Draffenville. This year’s events kick off tomorrow with Family Outdoor Night at the pond, and will conclude Saturday with the 20th annual Family Fun Day at the park.
Marshall County Family Week kicks off today, and county residents will have plenty of opportunities to get spend time with their loved ones.
The Clarks River Wildlife Refuge will kick off the week’s events at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5 with Family Outdoors Night. The event, held at the Refuge pond at 1010 Egners Ferry Road in Benton, will allow families to fish from the pond, paint rocks and play games. A limited number of fishing poles will be available to borrow at the event, according to the Refuge, however participants are welcome to bring their own supplies. Families with a soft spot for furry friends will have the chance that day to help contribute to Marshall County Animal Care and Control. The shelter will host its annual “Bark in the Park” fundraiser from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mike Miller Park in Draffenville. Staff will provide free hot dogs, chips, drinks and dessert for participants in addition to holding a silent auction, proceeds from which go to benefit the shelter. Other events on the itinerary include pet contests, a cake walk and face painting.
In addition, a local veterinarian will offer low cost vaccinations for dogs and cats at the event and free microchipping services for dogs and cats, as well. For more information, contact the shelter at 270-527-0954.
Branches of the Marshall County Public Library will host a family fun night from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 at all three locations: Calvert City, Benton and Hardin. Participants may choose from a variety of activies and games, as well as a rock painting station. For more information, visit marshallcolibrary.org.
The week’s events will culminate with the 20th annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, Sept. 9 in Mike Miller Park in Draffenville. The day will begin with the Family Day Fun Run/Walk: Ozone Toddler Fun Run begins at 8 a.m.; 1-mile youth run will begin at 8:05 a.m.; and the 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. Same-day registration will be held from 6:45 -7:45 a.m. Participants may also register in advance online at active.com.
The fun continues at 11 a.m., with the fun day activities at the soccer fields in the park. The park will play host to inflatables, food, face painting, a petting zoo and more. The animal shelter will host an adoption drive, and families will have the chance to meet local first responders. The event is free and open to the public.
