Marshall County Adult Education launches Skills U

(Benton, Ky.) – Marshall County Adult Education announced a new brand and logo for the free instructional programming it offers. “Skills U” reflects an increased emphasis on helping adults build academic and essential workforce skills for college and careers. This new brand is being launched statewide by Kentucky Adult Education (a unit of the Council on Postsecondary Education), the administrator of state grant funds for Marshall County Adult Education.

“Our new brand is a reflection of the reality that it is no longer enough for Kentuckians to earn just a high school or GED diploma, a reality further underscored by the implementation of the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act,” says Reecie Stagnolia, vice president for adult education, Council on Postsecondary Education.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) improves connections to employment and training opportunities that lead to economic prosperity for workers and their families. For KYAE Skills U, this translates to more intentional strategies to help its students enter college and be better prepared to gain and retain living-wage jobs

“Marshall County Adult Education Skills U will continue to offer the same great services we’ve always provided to our community – everything from foundational academic skills to preparation for the GED test and beyond,” Jillian Henson, Director of Marshall County Adult Education, says. “Now, we are working more intentionally with our partners to create a seamless system that encourages local adults to get the postsecondary education and sustainable employment they need.”

Marshall County Adult Education Skills U’s free services are available at 1308 US Hwy. 641, Benton, KY. For more information, call 270-527-7712 or visit http://www.marshall.kyschools.us/administration/4.
