A Calvert City man is facing charges after police say he stole a pickup truck from a Paducah business.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department opened a theft case July 16 from Central Paving, located at 4110 Clarks River Road. The victim reported a 2003 Chevrolet pickup had been taken from inside a locked fenced area on the property Sunday. The suspect rammed the locked gate with the vehicle in order to leave the business.
Detectives learned that the stolen vehicle was allegedly seen in the Calvert City area on this same afternoon and worked with Calvert City Police Department to obtain surveillance video footage from the area in question. Surveillance footage enabled detectives to identify the driver of the stolen pickup as Austin Lockard, 36, of Calvert City.
The stolen vehicle was discovered July 19 in the area of 504 Milliken and recovered.
Lockard was discovered to have been arrested in Obion County, Tennessee on July 24, operating an unrelated stolen vehicle for which he is facing charges.
Detectives traveled July 26 to Tennessee in efforts of interviewing Lockard. During the interview he allegedly admitted to being the individual responsible for the vehicle theft from Central Paving and attributed these issues to methamphetamine use and addiction.
Lockard will be charged with theft of an automobile and first-degree criminal mischief and eventually extradited back to McCracken County.
