Local author writes children’s book focusing on the importance of family

We’re all guilty of it, wrapped up in our busy lives and day-to-day distractions and sometimes forget what matters most. Local author, Wendy Westerfield, has written her first children’s book, “Adventures with Piggy”, a day at the beach and a lesson on the importance of family, which focuses on Piggy’s mission to get everyone refocused on what matters most.

A graduate of Hopkinsville High School, Westerfield and her husband Matt, along with their three children Wilson 8, Molly 6 and Savannah 2, moved to Marshall County for Matt’s position as Facilities Director at Crossings in Jonathan Creek.

“In our society, I see as a mom that we get so busy and sometimes go a whole day and not communicate well with so many activities going on here and there”, Westerfield said. “We need to be reminded that days are hard and busy, but we have to intentionally make time throughout the week and invest in each other.”

Westerfield’s inspiration for the book came about after attending a conference with Karen Kingsbury, a best-selling Christian novelist. Westerfield said it stirred her heart, inspired and encouraged her and she actually dreamed that she wrote a book.

After a year of praying and pursuing this dream, Westerfield was moved to write a book that would be character building, adventurous and relatable to girls and boys.

She has written a second book about Piggy’s Adventures, not yet published, that focuses on a little boy that goes to camp and is really nervous and fearful but overcomes these emotions to be brave and try new things. Her goal is to write a series of books that will focus on values.

The book is beautifully illustrated by Ashley Boh, an artist from Hopkinsville.

Westerfield said a book signing is being planning for August at the Benton Public Library and she is available for book readings at elementary schools.

She has books on hand or they can be ordered at Westbow Press – Adventures with Piggy. Learn more about the book and author at Adventures with Piggy and she can be contacted at wendy@adventureswithpiggy.com.
