Current, former Marshall County team members tee it up at the Irvin Cobb Championships

Current and former Marshall County golf team members teed it up this past weekend in the 81st Irvin Cobb Golf Championships at Paxton Park Golf Course in Paducah. Former Marshal and Murray State Racer, Nick Newcomb, finished T-4th in the Pro Division with 4-under for the tournament (68-70=138). Rick Cochran III won the Pro division shooting 8-under par (63-71=134).

Former Marshall County players D.J. Pigg (John A. Logan) finished T-9th with 6-over par (77-71=148) and Quinn Eaton (Murray State) finished T-11th at 8-over par (76-74=150) in the Amateur Division. Former Marshal and Racer, Hunter York, finished 5-over in the Amateur Division (73-74=147).

Marshall County’s Jay Nimmo finished T-9th overall in the Amateur Division and 2nd in the Junior Division with 6 -over (73-75=148). Jay has had a busy and successful summer in PGA Junior Tour events, taking 2nd at Belle Meade, 2nd at Rolling Hills, 1st at Paxton Park, 2nd at Calvert City and 2nd in an AJGA event in Owensboro.

Lady Marshal golf team member, Savannah Howell had a good weekend as well, placing 1st in the 14-15 age division to win the Drive, Chip & Putt local qualifier at Seneca Golf Course in Louisville. The top three in each division advance to the sub-regional at Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville on August 13th.

The golf team is holding tryouts this week.
