Chris Freeland

A former Benton city councilman will once again be seeking office next year.

Chris Freeland, announced his intent to run for the Kentucky House of Representatives 6th district seat, which encompasses Marshall, Lyon and a portion of McCracken counties. The seat, currently held by Will Coursey (D-Benton), will come up for election again next year.

Freeland is a native of Marshall County, whose public service includes four terms on Benton City Council, 17 years as a member of the Benton Lions Club and six years on the Marshall County Chamber Board of Directors. He’s been employed with the family-owned Freeland Broadcasting – owners of WCBL, WCCK and Marshall County Daily – for 25 years.

This is my home,” Freeland said in a letter issued to local media. “I want to see this district live up to its true potential.  I feel that starts with sending a selfless representative to Frankfort.  We pay the same state tax rate as Louisville, Lexington and Bowling Green.  Our district doesn’t deserve to be pushed to the back of the line. Frankfort must look to western Kentucky, specifically the 6th District, when it comes to state funded projects, funding for infrastructure, economic development and so much more.”

Freeland is a graduate of Murray State University; he resides in Marshall County with his wife Lori and is step-father to Drake and Leiren Jackson. His parents are Jim Freeland and Colleen Freeland Stephano.
