Grant Wilson recipient of National Interscholastic Cycling Association Award

Marshall County High School Mountain Bike Team member Grant Wilson is one of 30 individuals across the country to be honored as a 2016 NICA Award recipient. NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) recognizes each year the outstanding student-athletes, dedicated coaches, supportive volunteers, partners and sponsors.

Grant in the Leader’s Jersey, racing in the State Championships in November at St. Andrews-Sewanee School in Sewanee, TN.

Grant was the recipient of the Specialized Student-Athlete Leadership Award, given to student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, academic performance and volunteerism in their team, school and community.

Grant, who will enter his junior year at MCHS, has been a member of the Marshall County team for two years and finished third overall in the Tennessee High School Cycling League as a freshman and won the JV state title this past season. Grant also races locally, regionally and across the country, holding several state titles and three top 10 finishes at USA Cycling National Championships.

Grant is the third individual associated with the MCHS Mountain Bike Team that has been recognized with a national award from NICA. The Marshall County team has won the State Championship four consecutive years in the Tennessee High School Cycling League.

This past year, nearly 11,000 student-athletes participated in high school mountain biking throughout the US in 19 states.
