Lady Marshals season ends in 10-0 loss to McCracken County

Payton Smothers, stealing second base, was the only base runner for the Lady Marshals in their loss to McCracken County.

Taking their first step to a fourth straight trip to the state tournament, the #5 ranked McCracken County Lady Mustangs beat the Lady Marshals 10-0 in five innings in the quarter-finals of the Region 1 Tournament. Pitcher Lakyn Largent pitched a no-hitter in her five innings on the mound after an initial walk to Payton Smothers who was the only base runner in the game for the Lady Marshals.

Gabbi Lovett retired the first three batters in the game for the Lady Mustangs but in the bottom of the second, an error put Hannah Jones on base which was followed by a two run home run by Largent.

McCracken County scored three more runs in the third inning on a double by Jones and single by Largent to lead 5-0.

Five more runs scored for the Lady Mustangs in the fourth inning with Aubree Jo Kemp and Shelby Watkins on the mound for the Lady Marshals on a single by Abby Shoulders, a bases loaded walk, home plate steal and bunt for the 10-0 win.

Finishing the season with a record of 17-16, all of the Lady Marshals losses with the exception of spring break tournaments in Alabama and their district tournament loss to Calloway County, have come from Top 25 teams in the state.
