Officials of the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program have announced winners for the 2017 school year. Marshall County High School is honored to have 3 students accepted to the 2017 Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program and one student recognized as an alternate. Governor’s Scholars are chosen from a pool of applicants representing every public and private secondary school in the Commonwealth, as well as home schools. In order to succeed in the GSP’s highly competitive selection process, a student must excel both inside and outside of the classroom, demonstrating the commitments intellectual growth, community service, and effective leadership that characterize the Commonwealths future civic and economic leaders.

The Governor’s Scholars Program is a stimulating, five-week, residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students completing their junior year in high school. Every student selected to be a Governor’s Scholar attends the Program entirely without charge. Nearly every college and university in Kentucky offers scholarships to GSP alumni.

Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. Students are selected from across the state of Kentucky. The students selected from Marshall County High School are: Briley Chambers, Cameron King, Derek Doss, Chloe Kerrick (alternate)
