Former Commonwealth Attorney for Marshall arrested on drug charges

A former Commonwealth’s Attorney was arrested Friday morning on drug charges.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, Michael D. Ward, 66, was arrested about 10:45 a.m. Friday at an office in downtown Paducah. Police say ongoing drug investigations revealed Ward had allegedly purchased methamphetamine from several individuals; undercover investigation confirmed suspicions, according to McCracken County Sheriff’s reports.

Police executed a search warrant at Ward’s office and allegedly discovered about 17 grams of crystal methamphetamine, as well as baggies with meth residue. Police also found paraphernalia on Ward’s person, reports say.

Ward was taken to McCracken County Jail on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Marshall County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the arrest.

Ward, who has an office in Benton, was Commonwealth Attorney for Marshall and Calloway counties until 2008, when he resigned following his second DUI arrest in a five-month period.
