KSP seizes $1.5 million worth of heroin on I-24 in Lyon County

Kentucky State Police troopers with Post 1 seized 33 pounds of heroin while conducting a traffic stop on I-24 in Lyon County.

According to a KSP release, about 7:22 p.m. Monday, troopers stopped a tractor trailer in Lyon County for commercial vehicle inspection purposes. During the stop, trooper say they found a small amount of heroin on one of the vehicle’s occupants. Further investigation led to the discovery of 15 kilos, roughly 33 pounds, of heroin, according to KSP. Estimated street value of the drug is $1.5 million.

The driver, Roberto Orozco, 29, of West Valley, Utah, was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin, a class B felony. The passenger, Alberto Leal-Martinez, 50, of Magna, Utah, was also arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin. Both were lodged in the Caldwell County Jail in Princeton.

The investigation remains ongoing.
