
Huntsville, AL – Wrapping up their Spring Break play Thursday through Saturday in Huntsville, AL at the Bob Jones Invitational, the Lady Marshals picked up one win over Assumption but dropped four games to Sparkman, Spain Park, Wilson and Baker.
Their first game on Thursday ended in a 7-1 loss to Sparkman, AL. The Lady Marshals only run came in the third inning on an RBI double by Addie Young, finishing the game with five hits.

Spain Park, AL beat the Lady Marshals 13-5 in five innings on 11 hits in their first game on Friday. Trailing 2-0, they tied Spain Park 2-2 in the top of the second inning but in their next at-bat, Spain Park scored five runs to take a 7-2 lead. Leading 9-2 in the top of the fourth, Spain Park’s Teague hit a grand slam for a 13-2 lead. The Lady Marshals added their final three runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI by Gracey Murt, an RBI single by Kinley Edwards and a bases loaded walk by Kylie Meeks.

Wilson, AL shut the Lady Marshals out 4-0 in their second game on Friday. Their two hits came in the top of the fourth inning by Sarenna Tomassi and one in the top of the sixth by Payton Smothers. Shelby Wadkins pitched six innings giving up five hits and four runs. Gabbi Lovett pitched one inning, giving up two hits.
Their 6-5 win over Assumption, KY came on Saturday. They led 5-2 after the fourth inning then Assumption closed the gap scoring a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth but the Lady Marshals held on to win by one run on seven hits. Smothers and Young led at the plate, each with a double and home run. Smothers had one RBI and Young had two. The win on the mound went to Kemp in three innings of work, allowing four hits and two runs.

In their final game in Huntsville, down 2-0 in their first at-bat, they tied the game on a two-run homer by Young and took the lead in the bottom of the third scoring three runs on a home run by Smothers and a two-run double by Murt, before a fourth inning grand slam by Baker’s Ortiz gave them a 7-5 lead, getting a total of seven runs in the inning for a 9-6 win on 10 hits. The final Lady Marshal run came in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Murt.
