Lady Marshals 1-2 in Tuscaloosa, begin play in Huntsville Thursday

Tuscaloosa, AL – The Lady Marshals headed to the home of the Crimson Tide for three games Monday and Tuesday and came away with a 1-2 record dropping both Monday games, 11-6 to Tuscaloosa County and 11-1 to Cordova, AL, getting a win on Tuesday over Hillcrest, AL 9-1.

In their first game against Tuscaloosa County, the Lady Marshals held a 6-3 lead going in to the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs in the first on a Payton Smothers home run, Sarenna Thomassi scored on an error and Gracey Murt on a single by Presley Jezik. Three more runs in the third inning came on a two RBI double by Jezik and RBI single by Kaycee Kemp.

Tuscaloosa’s eight run sixth inning began on a bases loaded single, sacrifice fly, two RBI single, RBI single and three run homer by Atkins for the 11-6 win in seven innings on 13 hits.

Cordova took five innings to win 11-1 on 17 hits over the Lady Marshals in their second game Monday. The Lady Marshals led 1-0 early on an RBI double by Addie Young but Cordova answered in the bottom of the first with four runs that were highlighted by a three run homer by Ingram.

A triple and single scored two more runs for Cordova in the fourth inning to lead 6-1 and a five run fifth inning put the game away. Clark picked up the win on the mound for Cordova, allowing four hits and one run. Hyche and Ingram were both 3/4 with seven RBIs between them.

Two doubles by Smothers in the first and fourth innings combined for four runs that put the Lady Marshals up 7-0 over Hillcrest, AL on Tuesday. A two run double in the sixth inning by Young finished off the scoring for a 9-1 win in seven innings on 10 hits. Kemp pitched a complete game for the seven inning win, allowing four hits and one run.

The Lady Marshals head to Huntsville, AL for the Bob Jones Invitational for five games starting Thursday through Saturday.
