Marshals beat Clayton, MO, Ballard Memorial in Big Orange Classic

Cole Griggs beat the tag by the Clayton catcher,, scoring the Marshals second run of the game in the first inning.

DRAFFENVILLE – The Marshals extended their early season perfect record to 4-0 following their Big Orange Classic 11-1 win over Clayton, MO Thursday. Clayton beat Graves County 6-1 in the early game on Thursday.

The Big Orange Classic continues tonight with Caldwell County playing Calloway County at 5:00, also at 5:00 Mayfield will play Clayton, MO. Games will be played at the Marshall field and Mike Miller Park. The 7:15 games are the Marshals playing Ballard Memorial and Murray taking on Clayton, MO. Saturday’s game have been cancelled due to impending rain and storms.

Jackson Beal stretched out for the catch at first base for the out.

The Marshals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring two runs on two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Tyler Belcher hit a single that scored Lucas Forsythe and Cole Griggs. They added two more runs in the second inning with Blain Bizzle, courtesy runner for pitcher JC Goins, scoring on a wild pitch and Jackson Beal coming home on an error for a 4-0 lead.

They put the game away in the fourth inning scoring six runs that began on a single by Johnson, Goins walked followed by an RBI single by Beal then Goins scored on a wild pitch for a 6-1 lead. Another wild pitch brought Beal to home plate with three runs scoring on bases loaded walks by Anderson and Johnson. Belcher made it a 10-1 game when he scored with bases loaded after Weston Harper was hit by a pitch.

An RBI single by Dalton Andersson in the fifth inning put the game away. The Marshals 11 runs came on seven hits and nine walks with the win going to Goins who pitched four innings, gave up two hits and one run.

The Marshals shut out Ballard Memorial 10-0 in six innings on seven hits in Friday’s Big Orange Classic game.
Skyler Brown, Drake Anderson and Ty Buchmeier scored runs in the second inning and four more runs in the fourth inning on two outs gave the Marshals a 7-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, an RBI triple by Cameron Ives brought in Cole Griggs, an RBI single by Tyler Belcher brought home Ives and the 10th run of the game came on an RBI single by CJ Johnson. Griffen Ives got the win on the mound in five innings, allowing one hit and no runs. Cameron Ives was 2 for 4 at the plate with a triple and two RBI’s.
