Lane and Load Width Restriction on US 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton in TRIGG County TODAY & FRIDAY Morning

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to place a lane and load width restriction on the existing US68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton in Trigg County today and Friday, March 2 & 3, 2017.

The contractor plans to restrict traffic to one lane on the existing Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton starting about 9:30 a.m., today, to allow deck patching.

Due to equipment required to complete the work, this work zone will have a maximum 9 ft. load width restriction.

During the initial lane restriction set up there may be about a 10 to 15 minute delay for placement of equipment. However, through the day delays should be less than about 4 minutes.

This work zone lane and load width restriction on the US 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton is expected to go up around 9:30 a.m., CST, today. It is expected to be in place until about 4 p.m. On Friday, the work zone lane restriction is expected to be in place from about 9 a.m., to about 1:00 p.m., CST.

The US 68/KY 80 Cumberland River/Lake Barkley Bridge, also known as the Lawrence Memorial Bridge and the Canton Bridge, carries approximately 3,000 vehicles across Lake Barkley/The Cumberland River in an average day.

The bridge is located at US 68 mile point 8.596 in Trigg County and serves as the eastern entrance to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. The bridge is at Cumberland River navigational mile point 63.1.

PCL Civil Construction of Denver is the prime contractor on the $128.3 million project to construct a new Lake Barkley Bridge. The new bridge is expected to be ready for 2-lane traffic sometime in the spring of 2018 with finish work on the new bridge continuing through 2018.
