Lady Marshals move to 16-4 following win over Hopkinsville

HOPKINSVILLE – Marshall County and Hopkinsville came into Tuesday’s game with a 15-4 records. The Lady Tigers lead Region 2 standings and were on a seven game win streak until the Lady Marshals ended that by handing them a 42-32 loss.

“This kind of game tests you mentally and physically to see how we can bounce back from a tough loss”, Head Coach Joseph Simmons said.

It was a rough start for the Lady Marshals who trailed 6-0 halfway into the first quarter and handed a technical foul but they would finish the quarter out on a 3-pointer by Miyah Davis to trail 8-5.

Hopkinsville’s Janiya Davis gave the Lady Tigers a 10-5 lead to start the second quarter that was answered by the Lady Marshals who went on an 8-2 run to take their first lead of the game at 13-12. Four free throws by Hannah Langhi closed the first half out for the Lady Marshals scoring while Hopkinsville’s six points from Davis with four and Zakyra Stallworth with two put the Lady Tigers up 18-17.

Marshall County took the lead to start the second half and never relinquished it the remainder of the game, leading 29-26 at the end of the third quarter, building on that lead by out-scoring the Lady Tigers 13-6 in the fourth quarter for the 10-point win led in scoring by Langhi with 20 who completed her double-double night with 14 rebounds.

The Lady Marshals will play this weekend in the 8th Annual Gunner’s Magic Train Classic, taking on McCracken County Friday at 5:30 and Hopkins County Central at 7:00 on Saturday.
