MAYFIELD – The Eagles Nest has not been kind to the Marshals with their last regular season win there coming nearly a decade ago in the 2007-2008 season with the exception of a tournament win there in overtime in 2010 over Graves County. Friday did not change that with the Eagles handing the Marshals a 69-38 loss.

“That’s getting taken out back by the woodshed”, Head Coach Gus Gillespie said in post-game comments. “They played really well, we did not. It was a good ol’ kickin’.”
From the opening tip, the tone was set with Graves County’s Ryan Mathis taking the ball and immediately hitting his first of five three’s in the first quarter that led to a huge 22-3 lead at the end of the quarter with the Marshals only points coming on a 3-pointer by Matt French.
The Eagles built on their lead in the second quarter, again holding the Marshals to single digits to lead 37-12 at halftime led in points in the quarter by Brenden Young, Brady Wetherington and Jordyn Naranjo all with four points a piece.
The second half opened on a steal and lay-in that didn’t fall for Dylan Walters, and the Marshals struggles continued. Their seven third quarter points came on four free throws by Aaron Reed and a 3-pointer by Skyler Smith while Mathis dropped in his seventh three in the game for the Eagles.
The Marshals scored half of their points in the fourth quarter led by freshman Tyler Powell who dropped in two three’s to lead the Marshals in points off the bench with six.
The Marshals need to regroup and get ready for a game tonight at 8:00 against South Warren (4-13) in the State Farm Shootout then their next game will be at home on Friday against McCracken County (12-4).
