Danny Simmons is known by everyone in Marshall County as “The Bread Man.” That’s because for the last 27 years Danny has been loading the bread truck and stocking the shelves for many grocery stores and restaurants in Marshall County and has become a well-known staple of the community. “I’ve been bringing in the bread for a long time,” Simmons commented.

A resident of Massac County, Illinois, Danny has been working Marshall County’s bread route since 1990 and has a loyal following of customers. “Everybody knows and loves Danny,” commented Teresa Manley, owner of Four Little Pigs BBQ which is one of Danny’s many stops on his route. “Danny is always upbeat and encouraging to everyone he is around. He has handled our route for so long he feels like part of our family.”

Known for his great sense of humor and all around good hearted nature, Danny is always singing a tune or quick to tell a joke. “Danny has a way to make everyone have a good day and put a smile on people’s faces,” commented Flo Darnall who has known Danny from her long career in the restaurant business. “He is more than just a bread man. He is a friend to many.”

I have always said if you want to have friends then you got to be a friend and that’s something I try to do,” Danny remarked. The philosophy must work because countless people in Marshall County truly believe Danny “The Bread Man” is a rise above the rest.
