KY Highway Snow & Ice Report at 4:00 p.m.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Crews are winding down snow-fighting activities. Most crews have gone to standby mode until another round of snow moves through late this afternoon and into the evening hours.

Once that band of snow passes, supervisors will be making decisions based on the amount of snow it leaves behind. Most crews will likely be done for the night around 7 p.m., CST. All crews will leave a couple of trucks fully loaded and ready to roll out should slick spots develop overnight. Crews in counties with accumulation of more than about 1 inch may continue some salting and plowing activities overnight.

The Snow & Ice Team has some concerns about the potential for re-freezing overnight as temperatures drop into the mid-teens. Salt and other ice-fighting chemicals become less effective below about 18 degrees fahrenheit. Temperatures on Friday night are expected to be 10 degrees or colder, creating another opportunity for re-freezing.

Motorists are advised to slow down and use appropriate caution during overnight travel and on the morning commute Friday.
