The community lost a dear friend on Christmas Eve with the passing of Tim Hawkins, Calvert City Council member, active member of the Calvert City Methodist Church, the Marshall County Democratic Party and many more community organizations, but he was especially close to the hearts of players, coaches and fans of Marshall County Athletics.
Tim served for many years as president of the Backboard Club and worked tirelessly to promote and provide the Lady Marshals and Marshals with the support needed to succeed. Always a fixture at basketball games, Tim’s support didn’t stop there. You could always find him on the track at football games, tailgating with friends before the game.
Tim graduated in 1974 with the final class to graduate from North Marshall High School and following college at Paducah Community College and Murray State, Tim worked at Kentucky Dam Marina before his position as manager at the Holiday Inn in Gilbertsville. He left to manage the Holiday Inn in Henderson, Ky. and it was there he was paralyzed in a shooting at the hotel.
Tim was always ready for a chat and they would ultimately end up on the subject of sports, particularly Marshall County basketball which he was passionate about.
One of Marshall County’s biggest supporters will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held today, December 31st, at 10:00 am at Calvert City United Methodist Church
