The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is organizing a first official hike on the New Eggners Ferry Bridge Multi-Use Trail for 1:30 p.m., TODAY.
Anyone interesting in joining the hike should be at the Kenlake end of the bridge trail system ready to walk at 1:30 p.m., CST. Participants are urged to wear comfortable shoes and dress warmly as there is almost always wind moving down the lake.
There will be no formal event. This will mark the soft opening of the trail that interconnects with the Land Between The Lakes trail system and will eventually include a path across the new Lake Barkley Bridge being constructed at Canton.
Opening of the trail on Eggners Ferry Bridge had been held up awaiting arrival of some handrail that was required along an embankment next to the paved pathway.
The Transportation Cabinet plans to schedule a joint grand opening event with regional and state tourism organizations in the spring.
Anyone who would like to hike the bridge as a group today should be at the Aurora end of the bridge at 1:30 p.m. Opening of the trail today means it will be available for hiking in time for the New Year’s holiday weekend.
We anticipate posting photos of the first official hike to our Facebook Page around 3 p.m., today at www.facebook.com/kytcdistrict1. You do not have to be a Facebook member to access this page.
