On December 25th at 8:15pm, Sergeant Eddie McGuire was dispatched to a report of child sexual abuse. The mother of the child reported that her child had been in the care of the arrested. Upon the mothers return the child reported to the mother that the arrested had touched him inappropriately with his hands and mouth. He further reported that the arrested had asked the child to use his mouth on him. Arrested was John M. Lewis age 18 of Grand Rivers. He was charged with Sodomy 1st Degree. The child was under 12 years of age. Lewis admitted to the allegations during an interview with officers. Lewis was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
On December 23rd at 8:47pm, Deputies Luke Rudd and Chris Greenfield along with Sergeant Jason Lane investigated a report of child abuse. According to citations filed by the officers, their investigation revealed that a juvenile in the care of those arrested suffered injuries to include significant bruises to the arms and legs, lower back, and behind both ears. Also found were bite marks on the juveniles legs. The officers along with social services investigators took the child for medical treatment. Jennifer L. Roper age 30 of Benton was charged with Criminal Abuse 1st Degree – Child 12 or Under by Deputy Luke Rudd. Deputy Chris Greenfield charged Joshua R. Roper age 31 of Benton with the same charge. Jennifer Roper was also served a warrant from Calloway County for failure to appear.
