DRAFFENVILLE – Day two of the Lady Marshal Holiday Classic ended Tuesday with a Marshall County 68-41 win over Dyer County, TN, handing them just their second loss of the season. The seniors led the way for the Lady Marshals with Miyah Davis scoring 29 points, hit 6 of 10 threes and 5 of 7 from the free throw line. Hannah Langhi scored 20 points with 10 rebounds and hit 12 of 15 free throws and Paige Henson scored 6 points with 14 rebounds and was a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Senior Lexee Miller is sitting the tournament out to nurse an injury and be ready for next week’s KSA Events Holiday Tournament in Orlando, FL.

“They took to heart what Dyer was able to do to us last year in the championship game”, said Head Coach Joseph Simmons. Dyer County beat the Lady Marshals 67-44 to claim last year’s Lady Marshal Holiday Classic championship. Simmons told his girls following the game that they beat “a really, really good team”. Dyer County’s only loss this season was to the University School of Jackson.

A 7-0 run to start the game gave the Lady Marshals an early 7-2 lead, a lead they would never relinquish the remainder of the game, going up 18-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Miyah Davis opened the second quarter with a three, one of her six in the game, that began a 14-0 run by the Lady Marshals and 32-11 lead. They closed out the first half leading 43-17 behind 19 points from Davis and 10 rebounds by Paige Henson.

Davis scored eight of the Lady Marshals 14 third quarter points on her way to a 29 point game, adding her final two early in the fourth quarter to balloon their lead out to 61-29. Langhi dropped in four straight free throws that put Marshall County up by 35, enforcing the running clock to finish out the game.

“I told the girls if we win this tournament, we beat the three best teams in the tournament”, said Simmons.

They will meet Shelbyville Central, a 55-30 winner over Shelby County, in Wednesday’s championship game at 3:00. In earlier games Casey County beat Russellville 69-30 and Butler County beat Paducah Tilghman 54-36.

Games begin at 10:00 am with Russellville playing Tilghman in a consolation game, Casey County will meet Butler County at 11:30 in the third place game and another consolation game at 1:00 between Dyer County and Shelby County will be followed by the championship game.
