MCHS students Voice of Democracy Essay Contest winners

From the Benton Post, Caitlin Harvey took 1st place in the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest.

Marshall County High School recently announced the local winners of the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The contest was coordinated through Mr. Garry Smethers from the Benton VFW Post 1084 as well as Nick George from Calvert City VFW Post 5739.  MCHS winners from the Benton Post were Caitlin Harvey 1st place $100, Sabrina Collins 2nd place $75, and Karissa Jordan 3rd place $50. Calvert City Post winners were Paeton Ellegood 1st place and Seth Brooking.

Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves via a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 40,000 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of $2 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
