On December 2nd at approximately 7:56am, Marshall County ABC Officer Scott Brown contacted Deputy Steven Oakley and advised him that there was a vehicle parked in the lot at Benton Church of Christ with someone sleeping inside it. Deputy Oakley responded and discovered two males in the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver Deputy Oakley observed a syringe filled with an unknown liquid. After seeing this further investigation resulted in Deputy Oakley finding multiple baggies of suspected methamphetamine, a large bag of a substance yet to be identified, various pills which were identified as Xanax, Clonazepam, and Zolpidem. Deputy Oakley also located digital scales and more baggies. The driver, Brandon L. Fitch age 35 of Paducah was charged with the following:
Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree – Meth
Drug Paraphernalia – Buy / Possess
Trafficking Controlled Substance Within 1000 Feet of School
Trafficking in Legend Drugs 1st Offense
Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd Degree – 3 Counts
The investigation continued as Deputy Oakley came into contact with the passenger, Robert W. Stephens age 21 of Calvert City. Deputy Oakley located on Stephens person and belongings suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, a metal spoon and a bag on an unknown substance yet to be identified. Stephens was also arrested and charged with the following:
Possession of Forged Prescription for Legend Drug 1st Offense
Drug Paraphernalia – Buy / Possess
Trafficking in Legend Drugs 1st Offense
Trafficking Controlled Substance Within 1000 Feet of School
Both were lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center. All substances will be submitted to the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
On December 3rd at approximately 8:30pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield and Sergeant Eddie McGuire responded to Houser Road in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival it was discovered that the person causing the disturbance had gone next door. The Deputies heard the subject in the house next door and tried to get him to open the door. The subject tried to keep them out of the house and then tried to pull away from them as they made the arrest. Cody R. Shelton age 33 of Benton was charged with Assault 4th Degree and Resisting Arrest and lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
